All the way back in April of 2023, famous YouTuber, Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach, made an announcement that would shock his fans to the core: he would direct, star-in, and self-finance his upcoming science horror fiction movie: Iron Lung. This announcement would be followed by a lovely reception, and fans shared their hype over the movie.
Just nine days after the original announcement on April 21, 2023, Fischbach would announce that filming was completed. Then, on October 14, 2023, the first look at the movie would be revealed by a trailer. But, what is Iron Lung?
An adaption of the 2022 video game of the same name, Iron Lung is set in a post-apocalyptic world after an event known as the “Quiet Rapture” occurred, causing every known habitable planet and star to disappear. The story itself follows a convict, played by Fischbach, as he is submerged into an ocean of blood discovered on a desolate moon. His vehicle? A small, poorly constructed, submarine nicknamed the “Iron Lung.”
The game itself takes place only in one setting, inside the rusty submarine itself. The submarine lacks one vital thing: windows. Due to this, the player is unable to see where they are, and must take pictures to navigate through the bloody ocean without crashing.
However, the photos taken allure that the player is not alone in the ocean, and that something has spotted them. The game brilliantly uses the fear of the unknown, in combination with not knowing where you are, to create a well-received horror game.
Flash forwarding to December 5, 2025, Fischbach would reveal the final trailer on his YouTube account and announce the release date: January 29. Fans would go wild with the new release date, after nearly three years of waiting. Users who have followed Fischbach for a long time are also amazed to see his actor debut.
“I AM SO PROUD OF MARKIPLIER,” user jabp8 commented on the trailer, posted by the AMC Theatre’s YouTube.
If you are interested in seeing Iron Lung, the movie is showing at UEC 12 in State College, PA.
