On January 31, Penn State made history. The Penn State men’s hockey team held a game against Michigan State in Beaver Stadium. This was the first time that PSU held a hockey game at the stadium.
The game was extremely successful with 74,575 fans in attendance.  This was the second-largest attended NCAA hockey game ever. The game was packed and had a lot more fans than most people expected. The PSU men’s team went into the game ranked 5th, playing 2nd-ranked Michigan State.
This was a very intense game with back-to-back scoring that had fans on the edge of their seats throughout the whole game. Every time one team scored, the other had an almost immediate response.
The third period ended tied 4-4, sending the game into overtime. Michigan State player Charlie Stramel scored in overtime to win the game for Michigan.
Penn State’s Women’s hockey team also played a game at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions are ranked number 4 in the nation and played Robert Morris. Penn State won 3-0 and set a new program attendance record with 1,838 fans in the cold.
During the game, there were many ice conditions that were challenging and caused many stoppages in the game. Even with the setbacks, the Lady Lions came out on top.
There was also a State College high school game held in Beaver Stadium on January 29.  State College played Altoona High School. The game ended with Altoona winning 7-4. Both teams were a part of a historical game, becoming the first outdoor high school hockey game ever.
The weekend ended with a lot of history made and records broken in Hockey Valley.
