2025 was quite the eventful year, ranging from potentially the first American pope, Leo XIV to Donald Trump being elected for his second presidential term, and even Playboi Carti’s new album, Music.

January 7, 2025 – California Fires Start

On January 7, an act of arson snowballed into a mass issue for the whole state of California. An eight acre brush fire was lit and it transformed into a massive issue. The once tiny fire spiraled into a very large flame, burning over 57,500 acres and damaging over 18,000 houses, businesses and buildings in general

January 20, 2025 – Trump’s Second Term Begins

After winning the election in November by a close margin , President Trump began his second term in January. He immediately got to work implementing tariffs on other countries, immigration, and requesting deportations of non-U.S. citizens.

February 9, 2025 – Super Bowl LIX

The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs played each other for Super Bowl 59. The final score being 40-22, the Eagles had dominated the returning Super Bowl champions. After throwing for two touchdown passes and scoring a rushing touchdown, Jalen Hurts was named the MVP of Super Bowl LIX.

February 11, 2025 – DOGE and Major Federal Layoffs

Following Trump’s second term, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy created DOGE. DOGE stands for the Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE cut around 300,000 people from their jobs to make government spending more efficient and help save the government money. 

March 14, 2025 – Playboi Carti’s Album, Music

On March 14, Rapper Playboi Carti released his highly anticipated album, Music. This album most notably featured Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Future, Lil Uzi Vert and many more. The album had 30 tracks and was one of his best so far.

May 8, 2025 – Pope Leo XIV was Elected 

Pope Leo XIV was elected on May 8,  after 33 hours they decided to pick Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost who took the name Leo XIV. Following his election he walked on to the balcony of the Loggia Delle Benedizioni and delivered his first speech as Pope.

July 4, 2025 – The Texas Floods

The Texas Floods began during the first week of July. They were highly catastrophic to many people, killing over 135 people and caused around 22 billion dollars in damage. 27 of those people were at Camp Mystic for Girls, a private Christian summer camp. Of those 27, 25 were young girls and 2 were counselors.

July 22, 2025 – The Death of Ozzy Osbourne

On July 22, heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne died of a heart attack. He was known as one of the pioneers of the genre. He also was a co-founder for the band Black Sabbath, but he found success after being fired from Black Sabbath when he made “Crazy Train” a multi platinum solo.

September 10, 2025 – The Assination of Charlie Kirk

On September 10, Charlie Kirk was at Utah Valley University debating college students. Charlie was known for his support of the Republican party and his christian faith. While debating a student, Charlie was shot and was taken to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead at Timpanogos Regional Hospital.

October 1, 2025 – Government Shutdown

On October 1, the government failed to pass appropriation legislation for the 2026 fiscal year. This affected the government as a whole and weakened national security and public safety. Not only that, but the citizens of the U.S. were affected through air travel or food assistance.
