With the weather finally getting warmer and outdoor activities becoming easier to do, many events arise to encourage others to spend some time outside. Bellefonte High’s mini-THON 5k race emboldened the community to soak up and enjoy some sunlight.

The 5k race kicked off around 9 p.m. on March 14 at the Bald Eagle State Park and was arranged by Bellefonte High’s mini-THON. The race was held to help raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research, with all proceeds going to fund the cause.

An event like this always needs volunteers, one of which being Aalyn Cernuska.

“The 5k was the first of Bellefonte mini-THON’s annual Run for a Reason 5K.  This was not only an opportunity to connect with our community, but was also a fundraiser where all proceeds went towards our mini-THON Total,” Aalyn said. 

The community being brought together is very important for events like this because it helps bring awareness to the fundraiser and raise money. However, events like these not only raise awareness, but excitement for everyone involved.

“I personally was most excited to meet people who wanted to support our club and it was so encouraging to see the hard work of the club members pay off,” Aalyn said.

Excitement for these functions can always make others more eager for events like this in the future, whether it be for the race itself or to donate to a great cause. It’s always good to see others get together to help support a charity that can benefit others greatly.

“We were able to make over 3,000 dollars to support kids with cancer, and were able to reach out to our community and have them help us make a difference,” Aalyn stated.

In the end, people were able to come together to help support an amazing and giving cause.
