Band, choir, marching band, school board representative, student council, theater–this may sound like a lot, but senior Jalyn Meckley juggles these activities with ease.
Included in many extracurricular activities around the school, Jalyn is most notably the president of Choir Club, co-president on the Girls’ Golf Team, Minithon’s executive chair, and a committee leader on Raider Revolution.
As a senior, big decisions, such as furthering academic studies, often present themselves early on in the school year. Through college emails, texts, and other things such as surveys, seniors need to figure out their future fast. Jalyn, however, has her plan ready.
“I want to major in theatre to continue doing what I love for the rest of my life,” Jalyn said, “theatre has definitely had a massive impact on me growing up so to pursue it further onstage or behind the scenes would be a dream come true.”
Another tradition of being a senior is looking back at fond memories of your school career. From Kindergarten to now, everyone has a memory they hold close to their heart.
“I will miss my friends and my teachers once I graduate. These people have made such a big impact on me and it will be so hard to say goodbye,” she said.
Along with reminiscing about the past, seniors also want to leave behind a lasting impact in the school, something to be remembered by.
“I just hope [my legacy] is one of kindness, passion, and positivity.”
Preparing to leave underclassmen behind is a tough challenge, as Jalyn has grown closer to not only high schoolers, but also some upcoming freshmen next year through theater. To the people she is leaving behind, Jalyn gives advice.
“My advice to underclassmen is to have fun. Don’t take yourself too seriously, these years are hard enough without the added pressure. Take this time to be with your friends and teachers!”
Since Jalyn plays a major part in the Fine Arts, she works closely with the Fine Arts Department Chair, choir director, and theater teacher, Mr. Eric Brinser.
“Jalyn always keeps me up-to-date on the latest trends…and One Direction happenings! She brings such a positive energy to the classroom or rehearsal,” he said.
Jalyn Meckley strives to be a model student in Bellefonte High, and her impact on not just the theater department, but also the school, will carry on for many years to come.
