Joining Competitive Cheer his freshman year, now a sophomore Trevor Campbell-Tubbs has proven to be an important member of the Bellefonte team, as one of only two male athletes. After joining the summer of his freshman year, he has learned to prioritize cheer, even with his busy schedule.
Last year, also Trevor’s first season, the team unfortunately lost Districts, but was still able to qualify for the State meet. They were also given the opportunity to compete at Disney World by qualifying for the UCA. This year Trevor is now a District VI champ, as a back-spot.
As of now, Trevor does not plan on competing in college.
“I am not at the level of tumbling and stunting that college-level cheerleaders are,” Trevor said. However, he does hope to continue cheering on a recreation team to “just stick with it.”
Although many of these girls have been cheering together their whole lives, Trevor has clicked very strongly with the team
“I have a pretty good relationship with most of the girls,” Trevor said. He was friends with many of the girls on the team before he joined making the transition easy.
The head coach of the Competitive Cheer team, and Trevor’s favorite coach he’s ever had, is Coach “Skip” Headings.
“He helped me find my love for cheer, and he is very good at working around my crazy schedule. Thank you, Skip!” Trevor said.
Aside from cheer, he is involved in Student Council, Drama Club, and the Big Brother Big Sister program, all of which cut into his time for cheer.
“Trevor is always bringing laughter and fun to the team he’s great to have around,” Coach Headings said. For the past two years, he has seen how well Trevor works with others, and appreciates the energy he has brought to the team.
Looking back on the last two years of Trevor’s cheer life, his best memories are riding home on the bus after a winning game, as well as the time he spends with the team getting ready before games. With still two more years to go for Trevor, there is room for more champion titles and memories to be made.
