As delicate snowflakes descend to the ground, that warm fuzzy feeling starts to spread from person to person. But what is this feeling? Nostalgia? Excitement? Love for your family and friends? Of course not! It’s the rush of adrenaline when you’re snowboarding down the mountain top, the spray of snow as you hockey-stop your skis at the bottom of the slope. Where does one chase such a rush? Snow Sports at Bellefonte High, of course!

With the end of December coming in faster than before, the snowy season is on a high rise. Both Bellefonte High and the middle school offer a program made for lovers of the winter weather, where students can embrace their passion on the slopes. For the 2025-2026 school year, the person leading the Snow Sports club is Rebecca Roos. 

“I am so excited to be returning for my second year as a co-advisor for SnowSports. I’m still learning the ropes, but I’m dedicated to making this season incredible for our students,” Miss Roos said. 

Snow Sports plans to make multiple trips to Tussey Mountain, as well as a special trip to Killington, Vermont. All slopes the members plan to visit offer fake snow on a daily basis, guaranteeing a soft, pillowy base for action-packed stunts and unbelievable speed. The program’s team heavily focuses on safety for their adherents, which is extremely reassuring to the parents and guardians of the students in the Snow Sports program. 

Majority of funds for this program come from the school, but as of 2025, the program managers have reintroduced the fundraiser opportunities for students inside and outside of the program.

“We’ve brought back fundraising opportunities to help offset the costs of our day trips and the Killington trip. Each student has their own ‘account,’ so 100% of the profits they raise go directly toward their own personal trip costs,” Miss Roos explained.

Snow Sports aims to provide a fun and physically challenging extracurricular. Previous members revisit the club year after year, and new members always look forward to the next trip out to the slope. The club provides a fun and exciting community for all.
